How to Disable Galaxy S9 Icon Notification Badges

In this guide, we will show you how to disable the icon notification badges on the Galaxy S9. You love them or hate them. We are talking about these small red-orange notification points on the screen. As messages, emails, and notifications arrive, small orange dots appear on the application icons with a number of unread notifications.

This is a feature that many users love, especially those that come from the iPhone. However, they are also a bit frustrating. They do not work with all Android apps, so you will see the badge on some apps, and not others.

In the past, they were incredibly hard to remove on Samsung phones. However, thanks to Android 8.0 Oreo on the Galaxy S9, just a few shots in the settings. Watch our quick video, or read the step-by-step instructions below and find out how.

As you can see in our video above, they are extremely easy to edit, customize or completely disable. You can change the notification badges into points, and get rid of the unread counter on the Galaxy S9. Or, simply turn off the entire function and keep your screen clean. Here are the step-by-step instructions for those who can not watch the video

  • Open Settings in the application menu, or by pressing the setup button in shape in the drop down menu bar
  • Press Notifications
  • The App Icon Badges slide the toggle switch on OFF

That's all. We have completely disabled the application icon notification badges and unread counters on the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 +. However, you can also tap "App Icon Badges" for more options, instead of just turning it off.

Then you can customize it a bit as you can see in our screenshot on the far right. Choose to get rid of numbers and unread number, but keep a small dot for a visual reminder that you missed notifications. In this way, you do not see a huge orange badge on the screen, but you still have the indicator. It's a good ground of understanding, but it's a personal preference.

Go ahead and turn off the Galaxy S9 icon notification badges and you're done. If at any time you want to recover them, follow the steps above and flip the switch to ON. While you're here, take a look at these 9 best Galaxy S9 screen protectors from the slideshow below.

Tempered Glass Caseology (Easy to install)

Caseology Tempered Glass (Easy Install Tray)

First, we recommend the Caseology tempered glass screen protector kit for the Galaxy S9 +. Although they make great cases, the reason this list was made is the ease of installation of the tray.

Nobody likes to put screen protectors, and half the time, we do not care anyway. With Caseology, you will get an easy and super installation tray that perfectly aligns the glass protector for you. Remove the protective film, align it and drop it in place. Then use the included squeegee to get rid of any bubbles.

Each Caseology lens works great with cases, which means the edges are a bit short and your case does not pull it. They use 9H reinforced glass with anti-fingerprint coatings, rounded edges to prevent flaking, and it's also very affordable. Do not forget that Samsung also sells official accessories.
