Kirin 980 vs Apple A12 vs A12X vs Exynos 9820: Which one is best?

A processor chipset is designed to run smartphones, laptops, tablets and another type of portable devices. These are equipped with several advanced features to perform various tasks depending on their programming. Now with so much technological progress, big companies such as Huawei, Apple, Samsung, etc. have started to manufacture their chipsets. But which of these processors reigns over the others on the market? To find the answer to this question below, you will find an explanation of the latest processors manufactured by these companies and a comparison between them.

The latest Huawei processor, but not yet made available, the Kirin 980, is a SoC 7nm chipset that comes with an 8-core configuration. The chipset is equipped with an 8-core configuration: two cores Cortex-A76 with a clock speed of 2.6 GHz for higher power, two Cortex-A76 cores with a clock speed of 1.92 GHz for lower power as well as 4 Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz for all the less demanding operations and energy efficiency. Huawei has printed the Kirin 980 with a dual core NPU to get a better and faster AI code for the smartphone, camera and other uses. The next Huawei devices that will be equipped with Kirin 980 are: Companion 20, Mate 20 Pro and Companion 20 X.

However, the case with Apple is quite different because its A12 Bionic SoC chip, found in the latest Apple iPhone XS and Apple XR devices, comes with a 6-core configuration: 2 cores for high performance and 4 cores for lower power consumption. In addition to that, the chip also comes with a Neural engine that includes 8 cores to improve the quality of video and photography, as well as for other multiple uses.

In addition, the company also launched its latest pair of iPad Pro with the highly optimized and upgraded chipset, the A12X Bionic. Unlike the A12 chipset, the A12X, meanwhile, offers an 8-core configuration: 4 cores for maximum power and 4 cores for increased energy efficiency. The chipset also includes a neural engine consisting of 8 cores for a better AI code.

By the time we thought Samsung had reached its last goal, the company unveiled Exynos 9820. The last processor will probably feed the next Galaxy S10 and Note 10 smartphones. Just like the Huawei Kirin 980 and Apple A12X chipsets, the Samsung Exynos 9820 processor will also be offered with an 8-core configuration: 2 custom cores for high performance cores, 2 cortex to maintain balanced operation, and 4-core cores cortex for lower power consumption.

Like Apple and Huawei, the Samsung Exynos 9820 chipset also includes a Neural engine to accelerate artificial intelligence and all machine learning operations, such as enhanced video and photos.

When you look at the memory capacity offered, all 4 chipsets offer a LPDDR4X RAM along with a variety of storage. Huawei and Apple both have the same memory as UFS 2.1 while for Samsung, its UFS 3.0.

Huawei does not experience or customize its GPUs. Thus, in the brand new Kirin 980, you will find the GPU Mali G76 MP10. This implies that the chipset not only offers the latest generation of ARM graphics, but also includes ten rendering cores. On the other hand, we must not forget the "GPU Turbo technology" offered in the chipset to optimize the graphics performance of the operating system.

As for Apple, you'll find a fully customized GPU design for its 4-core A12 and 7-core A12X.

Like Huawei, Samsung also offers a similar proposal, but the bar is slightly raised. You will find the Mali G76 GPU in the Exynos 9820 but with twelve rendering cores instead of ten.

However, most processors are missing, these are 5G modems. But according to the latest report, the Huawei Kirin 980 will come with the support of 5G. Although Samsung has previously talked about the release of Exynos with 5G networks, it will be necessary to wait for the official announcement of the same for Exynos 9820. On the other hand, the Apple A12 and A12X processors are delivered with 4G modems. In addition, speed navigates at different data speeds on all chipsets. But as long as you have a network offering maximum speed, the 5G option should not be very important at the moment.
